Roeper and Siegel's Theory of Verbal Compounding: A Critical Appraisal
Abstract
This paper presents a critical appraisal of the theory of verbal compounding proposed recently by Roeper and Siegel (1978). (1) This theory was proposed within the general framework of a lexicalist approach to morphology/word-formation. It will be assumed that the reader is familiar with the general tenets of this approach as instantiated by the work of Aronoff (1976).
